West Virginia Conservancy to Dedicate 200 Acres in Ritchie County
The West Virginia Chapter of the Nature Conservancy will dedicate over 200 acres of woodland in Ritchie County at 2 pm today. Mr and Mrs James Murphy of Pennsboro donated the tract, which will be administered by Salem College after transfer to the conservancy.

Seven Fatal Highway Deaths Lift West Virginia Toll to 278
West Virginia’s highway death toll rose to 278 this year after seven deaths in six accidents since Friday night. Victims include two Cabell County brothers, William Welling and others in monsoon-like crashes along US 60 and WV routes, with ages ranging from 12 to 45.

West Virginia State Penitentiary education director Raymond Riley has left his position after a conditional pardon by Gov. Hulett C. Smith. A former Wirt County schools superintendent, Riley was convicted in 1965 of embezzling 1892.40 and his last day was July 10. Warden Ira M. Coiner said Riley cannot be reached and that a letter of resignation was his stated intent if demands were unmet.

Stewart To Speak On Safety At State Transportation Conference
