Loss of Federal Funds Predicted in State Budget Fears
West Virginia officials project about 3.2 million dollars in Medicare funds to cover state institution costs, but an anonymous insider predicts full recovery is unlikely. The shortfall, caused by low per patient payments and miscalculated eligible patients, may force cuts to pork-barrel projects and future spending estimates. Evidence points to only around 500,000 dollars collected, not the expected 3.7 million, with audits needed to clarify costs. Gov. Hulett Smith faces Boone County Vista controversy decisions by September.
