Summer politics in Charleston drift as lawmakers delay
In Charleston the state capital slows in midsummer with Gov Hurtt Smith on vacation and a stalled effort to appoint a Corrections Division head. Clarence Johnson suggests changing qualifications or naming a deputy, but a legislative act or funding is uncertain. The heat and conventions push talk of a late summer special session, while Moore campaigns across southern West Virginia and DMV struggles with long license plate lines. Meanwhile Morgantown hosts a three nation church leadership program July 8 19 with 125 clergy and lay leaders from 11 denominations and 10 states plus Canada at WVU Twin Towers residence hall.
