Welfare payments shift to federal system for elder aid
About 420 Monongalia County residents receiving old age, blind, or disabled welfare will have payments moved to the federal Social Security Administration as supplemental security income starting January. Eligibility remains with income and resources, with new federal maximums and potential state supplements. State welfare and Medicaid programs prepare for the transition and coordination at Cedar Lake meetings.
