Apple Fest underway in Taylor County features two parades carnival rides and apple specialties. Dignitaries include U S Sen Jennings Randolph State Sen Bud Harman and local officials. 74 units registered for the Sept 15 feature parade with a Queen's Parade Sept 12.
Taylor County Board approves Flemington High School Band trip for 60 students to the Festival of the Americas in the Bahamas next spring. They must raise 15000 dollars. fundraisers include solicitations to local business and industry. Board requires parental legaldisclaimers and funds placed in savings with interest returned if trip not funded.
Ralph S. Towles 81 of Rt. 4 Grafton died after a life linked to Camp Towles. He deeded 15 acres to Taylor County Board of Education in 1938 for a youth camp later expanded with WPA NYA support. Survived by daughter Martha Towles Morris of Richmond Virginia.
Flemington High School will present a 9 a.m. concert for teaching and administrative personnel at the new Anna Jarvis Elementary School. The ensemble, led by Buck Courtney, is described as the only high school percussion group of its kind in the state and includes members Debbie Bailey Rick Brown Greta Cropp Steve Furbee Beverly Goodwin Buddy Hart Terry Hotsinpiller Steve McNemar Marty Mullins Bob Biffle and Mike Sharps with a wide range of instruments.
