The outlet site's history spans 1974 proposed 2099 homes, later rejected 1750 homes, a scaled back plan, 1963 Nixon library selection later built in Yorba Linda, Ritz Carlton interest in late 1990s, power center proposals in early 2000s, city approvals in 1999 and 2005, coastal permit in 2006, disruption from Lehman bankruptcy in 2007 2008, and resumption in late 2014 after a settled legal suit. Craig Realty Group filed a City Hall permit request for freeway oriented wall signs at the Outlets at San Clemente. Steve Craig proposed 32 signs along I-5 in 2007, drawing resident protests and a court ruling that the environmental report was insufficient. The project stalled by 2008 and resumed in 2014 before the council action continued.
The Planning Commission raised questions for city staff and tabled the sign proposal. A hearing date has not yet been announced.
Shorecliffs Middle School surfers joined a two hour Shorecliffs Skate Derby at the Stance warehouse in Rancho San Clemente Ayaipena Park on November 4. Students wore costumes, performed barrel and skate runs, then did break dance on a basketball court. Gavin Wilchek led boys, Reese Dewey led girls with prizes donated by Stance, Electric Eyewear and Lost.
