New trash program raises New Bern waste volume

Tim Lee of American Refuse Services reports a 6 percent rise in trash volume during the first 18 days of September over August. A total of 391.97 tons were collected versus 369.74 tons, with extra tonnage blamed on abandoned trash being hauled since the Sept 1 launch. Lee says the increase appears temporary and households aren’t disposing more than usual. ARS also handles 64 gallon weekly carts and monthly cardboard pickups and will remove abandoned 90 gallon carts full of waste.
