Abortion numbers drop to 1973-era lows in US report

New figures from the Guttmacher Institute show 862000 abortions in 2017, down from 926000 in 2014 and just over 1 million in 2011. The rate fell to 13.5 per 1000 women 15 to 44, the lowest since Roe v. Wade.

Rare Paiute cutthroat trout returns to native Silver King Creek

In Alpine County, about 30 Paiute cutthroat trout will be moved by pack mule from Coyote Valley Creek to Silver King Creek at 8,000 feet, marking a pivotal step in a multi decade recovery effort under the Endangered Species Act. State and federal researchers will supervise this reintroduction as conservationists aim for a self sustaining population of roughly 2,500.
