UN warns warming near agreed 1.5C limit as extremes rise
A U N WMO and science groups report the world nears the 1.5C threshold set in 2015 and may exceed it within a decade. In the near term there is about a one in four chance of a year at 2.7C above preindustrial levels, driven by man-made warming and a strong El Nino. The findings come amid record heat and wildfires in the United States and elsewhere, with recent heat in Death Valley and Siberia highlighting rising extremes.
