Eugene Joseph Cella known as Gene, born September 29 1948, died September 2 2019 at 70 after cancer battle. He lived in New Bern and Raleigh NC, married Joanne Ryan Cella in 2011, and retired as Administrative Law Judge in 2014. Survived by wife, stepson Daniel Ryan, stepdaughter Kerianne, brother Stephen, sister-in-law Bridget, nieces Katheryn Woodruff, Haley Erickson, Alexandra, and grandnieces. A 1 pm September 7 service at Hall Wynne Durham, with memorials to Duke Home Care & Hospice.

Havelock Fire Chief Reports Quiet Night During Florence
Havelock fire chief Rick Zaccardelli said the night was fairly quiet with only two storm unrelated calls. Havelock avoided massive damage, while forecasts warned of severe flooding toward Ocracoke and the Outer Banks with potential life threatening surge. Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort noted about five feet surge.

City Debris Pickup Plan Delayed by Hurricane Dorian
Hargett said debris collection may not meet FEMA thresholds and no outside contractors will be hired. Crews begin Monday, then regular household garbage follows as the city works to cover the entire area. Onslow County will decide Monday if county debris pickup will occur while the landfill and several convenience sites reopen Saturday and Sunday. Residents are urged to separate yard debris, home damage debris, regular trash, and recycling into four areas, with cardboard kept flat. The city also aims to clear Thursday and Friday routes missed this week before Dorian.
