Rescue, reunion amid Dorian’s Abaco devastation
In Abaco Bahamas Syliva Cottis, 89, and her caretaker endured five days of floods and sewage after Hurricane Dorian. Neighbors pried open a jammed door to reach them as the storm’s aftermath unfolded with bodies found nearby and a massive relief effort by U N, Red Cross, Coast Guard and others. Cartwright, 58, embraced her son Carlton Nixon during a tense reunion as helicopters and aid finally arrived and residents sought safety and medical care at Marsh Harbor Healthcare Center.
