New Bern Restores Historic F-11 Blue Angels Jet
The jet, loaned by the National Museum of Aviation in the 1970s, is now displayed atop a mound along U.S. 70 with landscaping and story boards. Volunteers, led by Bobby Aster and Swiss Bear, restored the aircraft to Blue Angels livery after storage and vandalism damage. The project, costing about $200,000, included tax‑in‑kind gifts and city funding, with the jet moved to Cherry Point for overhaul before rejoining the display. Francine Sawyer reports.
