Havelock coach Gene Bell fights heart disease with surgery

Gene Bell, 65, of Havelock, delayed surgery after noticing slow onset chest burning and shortness of breath. Doctors at Craven Regional Medical Center found three artery blockages and recommended open heart surgery, which he underwent June 9 after family urging to treat the condition near home.
