Purdue to transform into public benefit company in opioid settlement
Purdue Pharma will pay 225 million to the government and 2.8 billion in civil damages as part of a 2.0 billion criminal forfeiture and a bankruptcy proceeding. The Sacklers will not run the new public benefit company, with funds supporting treatment programs and public health efforts. Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey says the deal fails to expose all truth and hold perpetrators fully accountable. Ed Bisch urges prosecution of Purdue individuals despite the agreement. The settlement comes amid political divisions as the opioid crisis remains a national issue.
