Chaos in Syria as IS escape camps amid Turkish assault
Hundreds of Islamic State supporters escaped from a northern Syria camp amid heavy fighting as Turkish-led forces clash with Kurdish defenders. U S President Trump ordered withdrawal of troops from the region, citing risk to personnel, while Defense Secretary Esper warned the situation deteriorates quickly. Authorities reported 950 to 859 escapees from the camp housing IS affiliates and families near Ein Eissa, with some recaptured and others at large. The Kurdish administration blamed the clashes on the Turkish offensive and warned of a potential IS resurgence as the fighting widens.
