Unusual field trip exposes students to sea life at island
First graders and EMH students from Graham A. Barden Elementary in Havelock toured Radio Island with Ocean Quest Dive Club members Shelton Hall Mary Neil Hall Wesley Lamb Mary Lamb Kelly Richie and Bob Hamilton bringing starfish crabs sponges sea urchins whelks sea squirts and a porcupine puffer. Students touched animals and learned pollution harms as divers answered questions and collected ocean trash with air tanks donated by Olympus Dive Shop Wreckr National Divers and Tar Heel Divers.

Octopus and turtles fascinate Trent Park students at aquarium
Third graders from Trent Park Elementary visited Pine Knoll Shores aquarium on September 20. They wrote about sightings including octopus, horseshoe crabs, blue crabs, catfish, moray eel, alligator exhibit, a shipwreck display, and a sharks film. They also touched horseshoe crabs and watched bird life via binoculars.
