Navy boat training expands near Slocum Creek and Pelican Point
Cherry Point Off Down East announces October expansion for Slocum Creek and Pelican Point training. Special Navy boat teams will move personnel into B2 and GSAC near Shady Grove across from Slocum Creek in a noise abatement area. They will use blank ammunition, not live fire, with gunfire audible from 8 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.

Pamlico Shriners Speckled Trout Tournament Benefits Hospitals
The Pamlico County Shrine Club holds its fourth annual Speckled Trout Tournament to raise funds for Shriners Children’s Hospitals. A captain’s meeting is at 6 p.m. October 21 with Dixon family barbecue. tournament prizes hinge on largest trout, one fish per entrant, with a kids’ prize category and a custom trout trophy for the largest fish.
