Salvation Army wary thieves may pose as bell ringers
In Winston-Salem North Carolina thieves stole six red kettles bells and aprons from multiple locations Monday raising concerns they may impersonate legitimate bell ringers. Salvation Army aims to raise 150 million this year through the red kettle campaign which normally accounts for about ten percent of its annual budget and funds housing food and poverty programs. Maj Jim Rickard notes volunteers do not seek donations on Sundays or Thanksgiving and ring bells until about 8 p.m. with kettles labeled Salvation Army.
