Unsafe conditions blamed for Haitian deaths
In Port au Prince a hillside shack collapsed onto a home during Tropical Storm Gordon, killing two children. Haiti’s government cites 531 storm deaths, the region’s highest toll, with Cuba and Jamaica each reporting two deaths and Florida noting six. The high toll stems from unsafe housing among Haiti’s poor communities.
