Vote totals show Vance Alphin with 1180 and Gerald Parker and Cindy Watson among candidates. Leon Nixon receives 273 votes in the local race. The arrangement indicates a multi candidate contest with party affiliations listed for each candidate.
The TL Commissioners list five open seats with six candidates: Charles Battle Democrat Nolan Jones Democrat Horace Phillips Democrat Sondra Riggs Democrat Dewey Strayhorn Democrat and Preston Reynolds Republican. The page notes party affiliations for all contenders.

Clinton aides say deficit reduction and bipartisanship will guide hearings and legislation amid a mandate for change. Statehouse gains add to the overall political shift.
With 93 percent of precincts reporting in North Carolina, Walter B. Jones Jr. defeats Martin Lancaster in the 3rd District, Fred Heineman tops David Price in the 4th, and veteran Democrats Bill Hefner and Charlie Rose fend off challengers. Cass Ballenger wins the 10th District with 71 percent, flipping no seats but expanding GOP control overall.
