Baseball fans gain a rival league United League promises 10 teams by 1996
United League organizers say they will coexist with Major League Baseball while fielding 10 teams by 1996 and sharing equity with players and host cities. Former congressman Bob Mrazek and Curt Flood join the US group stating plans for high caliber play and potential expansion beyond the United States. They aim to recruit 10 franchises at five million dollars each, with six later teams including four from Asia by 1999. The venture seeks an alternate path amid MLB labor strife, while players would be represented by the Major League Baseball Players Association.

Perles Gets Court Order Against Former Player
East Lansing Michigan AP. George Perles secured a restraining order against Roosevelt Wagner to keep him away from Perles and his family at his campus office and Okemos home. Wagner claimed he plotted to kill and kidnap Perles after a 1992 NFL draft snub. Michigan State opened an NCAA probe into alleged infractions and Wagner’s stalking claim precedes a 1993 stalking law. Prosecutors are aware and will enforce the order if violated.
