Civil War era portraits of Edward Stanly and duel near DC
A vivid portrait traces Edward Stanly from his sultry temper and Whig leanings to his congressional feuds with Henry Wise and the attempted duel in 1842. It details Wise’s arrest, Stanly’s pistol practice, and a later 1851 Bladensburg duel with Samuel Inge, which ended without bloodshed. Jefferson Davis figures in the aftermath, foreshadowing future conflict. Contact Bill Hand for more.
