In New Zealand Bridge editor Bede Solomon’s February issue a competition, Magic Moments, features deals where fortune shifts to declarer or defenders. A sample from a February deal shows North with 7-11 points and a five-five spade distribution, misfitting with partner’s strong hand. The lay of minor-suit spots and successive tricks let South seize ten tricks, despite a bleak start.
