GOP bill would can those who nab tax cheats
A Republican measure would fuse four agencies into the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety eliminating over 250 of 509 fuel tax enforcement officers who recover more than 10 million dollars annually. The plan moves the SBI wildlife officers and other tax enforcement staff into a single department to boost crime-fighting power while asserting savings and efficiency. Governor Hunt critiques the move as risking a proven program and warns against reducing fuel-tax enforcement.
