Tokyo raids target Aum Shinri Kyo over subway nerve gas attack

Police in gas masks seized chemicals at about two dozen Aum Shinri Kyo facilities in dawn raids across Japan. Arrests followed the kidnapping of a government official, while authorities tied the incident to the sect and its alleged sarin production. The subway attack toll rose to 10 dead and 5,000 injured as raids uncovered followers in a rural Kamikaishiki compound and testimonies reflected public unease.
