Official not expecting problems in state's hatcheries, streams

North Carolina reports whirling disease has not been found in mountain trout hatcheries or streams. Fred Harris, head of the Division of Boating and Inland Fisheries, says the state avoids earthen ponds and does not stock rainbow trout in dense streams. He urges disease-free sourcing of fish by hatcheries and commercial producers, noting NC ranks second to Idaho in rainbow trout production.
