Craven County reports its first confirmed case of COVID-19. health director Scott Harrelson says the patient recently traveled abroad and, with their spouse, is in home isolation. contact tracing will identify close contacts and quarantine as needed.
Deborah Langhans, a Durham native and longtime Craven County educator, received the Community Fabric Award for Leadership in Education. She began teaching math at West Craven High School in 1989 after student teaching there and has progressed to district administration through roles as principal and assistant principal.
Harris Teeter will close at 9 p m starting Sunday March 15 and reopen regular hours thereafter. Publix says its stores will close at 8 p m from Saturday March 14 until further notice. Food Lion Lowes Foods and Lids reported no hour changes. Stores cite enhanced sanitation and restocking efforts to protect workers and customers.
President Trump announced a broader European travel ban adding Britain and Ireland. U.S. citizens and others will be funneled to 13 airports with health screenings and quarantines. He said he was tested for the coronavirus after interactions with infected individuals and noted his temperature was normal.
