Rail policy threatens Vanceboro driveways by Norfolk Southern
Vanceboro residents along US 17 North face loss of private driveways as Norfolk Southern reviews at grade crossings. Linda Wise reports their driveway crossing was torn up forcing a husband to park on the roadside while they search for a new home. Neighbors say a June 10 letter demands legal documentation by June 21 to authorize crossing removal, with no clear guidance after their follow up.

Park phase 1 kicks off with groundbreaking
City of New Bern and Craven County officials gathered at Martin Marietta Park on Thursday morning to mark the start of phase 1 work for what will be the largest park in New Bern history. Mayor Dana Outlaw credited past aldermen for kickstarting the project, noting plans began after a 2017 land donation agreement. The nearly 900 acre site on 700 South Glenburnie Road includes branding for Martin Marietta and an amphitheater. The park is open daily to pedestrians from 7:30 a.m. to sunset.
