CP&L Embezzlement May Top $1 Million
Raleigh AP reports a Carolina Power and Light accountant may have embezzled more than 1 million dollars, making it the utility's largest insider swindle. Tony Creech, 46, faces 15 felony counts with $529,019 taken in 12 days. He remains jailed on $200,000 bond and has not entered a plea. The probe cites a two month spending binge, including a $224,619 one day theft in August 1987 and a March 1994 home purchase with CP&L funds.
