Shrimp outlook improves across North Carolina waters
Marine biologists sampled shrimp in May and June across coastal North Carolina. Area counts rose sharply from last year with Pamlico Sound averaging 127 shrimp per minute and Core Sound at 300, while statewide harvest reached 7.3 million pounds in 1994. Despite strong counts, fishermen caution that samples do not guarantee a good season and emphasize the need for a second crop and seasonal timing.
