Strawberries and Yanks in salary dispute over charity share
Negotiations between the New York Yankees and Darryl Strawberry stalled as the team seeks part of his salary for charity and bank control of finances. Yankee owner George Steinbrenner says the aim is to help Strawberry become a positive example while he works to deliver a breakthrough. Strawberry also hit two home runs for Triple-A Columbus, while his agent threatens a grievance. Meanwhile Deion Sanders joined the San Francisco Giants, debuting leadoff in center field after being traded from Cincinnati. He went 1 for 6 in the opener near a 72 hour reporting deadline. Reds pitcher Jose Rijo is advised to rest his elbow for weeks due to a calcium formation in a ligament. Boston trades Mark Whiten to Philadelphia for Dave Hollins.
