Fairfield teacher turned local fishing mentor inspires youth
Fairfield Harbour resident John Simonsen, a retired history teacher, devotes years to guiding youngsters in boating, crabbing, and fishing. He hands out fishing rods to under eight year olds, funded by discounts from Lou's Rods and Reels in Havelock after a home flood disaster. He has mentored teens on motor use and boat handling, sharing his passion despite lifelong injuries and limited mobility.
