Arapahoe Opposes Wastewater Spray Site Near Town
About 40 residents of Arapahoe attended a Monday night meeting with Pamlico County commissioners and project engineer Tim Baldwin of McKim and Creed. They questioned the NC 306 land application site for treated wastewater from regional districts Bay River and Oriental, fearing a storage lagoon and odor, while officials say the lagoon replaces river dumping and the plan supports county growth. The Arapahoe Town Board had already opposed the site, and residents seek proof that no better county site exists. The project, funded by state grants and loans totaling about 4.3 million, could start before 2000 and raise monthly bills to around 28.50.
