Bismuth tin shot approval eyed for 95 96 waterfowl season
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service plans to continue allowing bismuth tin shot as an alternative to steel for the 1995 96 waterfowl season while long term toxicity tests proceed. Officials say early data show no toxicity to waterfowl, but permanent approval depends on a 14 week chronic toxicity test and reproductive assessments. The shot remains scarce and may cost more when available.

Costa Rica bans sailfish fishing to boost sport fishery
ATLANTA AP Costa Rica will ban commercial sailfish fishing in its waters to protect biodiversity and revive a depleted sport fishery. The prohibition also covers shad and ends recreational swordfish fishing, effective January. Conservation groups and Costa Rican bodies backed the move with a study showing sport fishing yields far more revenue, with 30 percent of tourism income from sport fishing in 1993 totaling about 150 million dollars.
