Norris accused of killing grandparents
Michael Tanner Norris 30 faced a double murder charge for shooting his grandparents, Andrew Percy Hoyle and Sandra Smith Hoyle, at their Dragstrip Road home near Bridgeton with a high powered rifle. He fled in the car and was captured in Belhaven. He awaits August 13 court appearance in Craven County Jail. Sheriff says narcotics blamed for the act.

Exhibits sparkle in July ArtWalk downtown New Bern

New exhibits at Craven Arts Council 317 Middle St include Creative Workforce honoring state community college art professors and a Juneteenth display featuring local African American artists in the Bank of the Arts Main Gallery. The Martha Jenkins Scholarship Fund supports NBHS art students and gallery access on Middle Street.

North Carolina veto overrides fail as COVID rules stay
The Republican led General Assembly again failed to override Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes, keeping his COVID-19 business closures in place. Four vetoes upheld in House or Senate votes targeted restrictions on venues and gatherings, while a fifth related to concealed carry in churches was also sustained. Cooper has blocked 25 vetoes since April 2019 with no overrides.
