Law Bill Would Shield Some Medical Examiner Records
A North Carolina bill seeks to keep certain information the Chief Medical Examiner receives from public view if it was already secret with the original holder. The measure would allow autopsy results and conclusions to remain public while related law enforcement files could stay hidden. Critics fear less transparency on police conduct and deaths in custody. Supporters say the change could protect sensitive sources.
