Special kind of person who works with children at Duffyfield Center
Maria Ward, center manager at Duffyfield Head Start, describes her calling in early childhood work. Born in New Bern, she earned degrees in education and leads day to day operations, partnerships, and family outreach for 90 children aged three to five. After Hurricane Florence, the center rebuilt with help from other Head Start sites and community groups, keeping services for families. Maria values staff bonds and community ties, viewing her work as a ministry that supports children, teachers, and parents.
