New Bern man faces first degree murder charge at Gators Sports Bar
Linwood Earl Collins 29 was indicted on first degree murder after police say he shot Michael Edward Lee 35 inside Gators Sports Bar on Trent Road at 1:20 a.m. Sunday. Lee died from a gunshot to the head. staff subdued Collins after the shooting. a court-appointed lawyer Mark Chesnutt is expected to withdraw.

Sentence Given to LaNoce Murder Accomplice White
A Carteret County man Michael Orwood White 22 of Newport received 36 months in prison for accessory after the fact of murder in the LaNoce case. He will serve concurrently with an eight year state sentence and gets 22 months credit. White testified in New Bern that Reginald Carl Vincent 22 of Morehead City bludgeoned Sandra LaNoce in Croatan National Forest on May 31 1991 after she refused his advance. Vincent was found not guilty on Dec. 19. The sentencing reflected cooperation with authorities and departure from guidelines.
