UNC System seals deal to fund Silent Sam removal
After protests and backlash, UNC System reaches a November agreement with the SCV to remove Silent Sam and spend up to 2.5 million dollars through a charitable trust. The deal avoids re erecting the statue on UNC campuses, prompts criticism over safety and potential ties to white supremacist groups, and involves a 74,999 dollar additional payment amid months of closed door negotiations.
