New route opens escape for some from Sarajevo
Hundreds of Sarajevans left the besieged city today via a route closed since July by Serb gunfire and reopened under a Carter brokered truce. About 300 to 400 civilians lined up for the short flight across the airport to the government held suburb of Butmir, while 100 Serb civilians traveled between Lukavica and Ilidza. Officials warn the accord remains tenuous and talks continue on civilian use of the road, which could allow access to Croat areas and beyond.
