North Carolina to raise age juvenile justice changes in two years
State lawmakers agreed to end NC being the only state automatically charging 16 and 17 year olds as adults within two years. A bipartisan advisory committee will draft a plan to raise juvenile jurisdiction for nonviolent offenses and misdemeanors and report to the General Assembly in early 2023. The 2019 law directs the reform.
