Dinoflagellate blamed for Neuse River fish kills
NC State scientist JoAnn Burkholder says a toxic dinoflagellate killed about 100,000 fish in a one mile stretch of Goose Creek, part of the Neuse River tributary. Don Reuter of the DEM notes possible prior kill near 500,000 fish and says low dissolved oxygen may still contribute. Authorities consider both causes in combination.
