Craven County tax bills delayed into September and October
Craven County property owners face delayed mailings for their ad valorem taxes as the eight year revaluation and Board of Equalization process push back county and city notices. County data sharing means eight cities can’t bill until the county bills. Revaluation notices were sent in February for about 42 000 parcels, with ~150 appeals heard since May. City bills in Havelock and New Bern expected in late September to October, with full bills likely mailed by October 1st for city totals. Taxes due September 1 remain, with delinquency not until January 6.

Board rejects attempt to hike tipping fees
The Coastal Regional Solid Waste Management Authority defeated a motion to raise tipping fees at the Grantsboro transfer station during a Pamlico County meeting. Robert Winslow urged higher fees for Pamlico and a slight cut for Carteret, but only two board members supported the measure. Bill Rice argued that variable tipping fees undermine a regional approach. The board will audit the figures and study the cost allocations before deciding. A national coastal management conference is planned in Wilm with Gov. Hunt and other officials, part of the Year of the Coast celebration marking CAMA’s 20th anniversary.

Woodstock Returns in Saugerties With 1990s Spin
Bruce Godfrey argues Woodstock 1994 mirrors a changed era with higher prices and tightened norms. He notes a $135 entry, no alcohol, new souvenirs, and a shift from free love to safety and sponsorship as nostalgia clashes with modern commerce.
