15 Year Old Camper to Start Rabies Shots After Bite
A 15 year old camper at Camp Seagull near Arapahoe in Pamlico County will receive a series of rabies injections after a bat bite reported Monday. Health Director Bob Edgman said vaccine supplies are en route and state tests on the bat are pending. Officials advised immediate treatment despite test results due to uncertainty about the bat involved. The incident follows comments from State Veterinarian Lee Hunter on bat bites and rabies prevalence, noting random accidents and ongoing wildlife rabies levels without reflecting broader outbreaks.
