Health care fight could raise bills for state workers

Major hospital systems in Charlotte and Raleigh rejected a new proposal to stay in the State Health Plan, risking higher rates for teachers and other state workers in 2020. Two deadlines passed without signups, as the plan and hospitals clash over price setting. The plan, overseen by State Treasurer Dale Folwell, aims for transparent, state-set pricing, but Atrium Health, Novant Health and UNC Health did not agree, potentially placing these providers out of network for state employees.
