Central escapee sought as possible Iowa link emerges
West Virginia police canceled an active search for escaped rapist James Stromer and noted he might head to Iowa where relatives live. In 1993 a hit list from Central Prison was mailed to Stromer's daughter in Iowa, including local witnesses. Stromer, 48, was serving a life sentence plus 62 years for rape kidnapping burglary and conspiracy to murder committed in 1989 at East Carolina University.

Polar bears debut in North American section at NC Zoo

Infant funeral held for unclaimed baby in Gastonia
Emanuel Cameron died of pneumonia five days after birth and his Gastonia parents, 35 and 29, vanished after leaving the newborn at the hospital.
