County weighs Caspersen Beach plans at LWV meeting

Venice City Council to re vote grievance hearing rule changes

The Venice City Council may vote publicly on future grievances after a private ballot two weeks earlier sparked a Sunshine Law review. Assistant City Attorney McGill says the private vote was questionable but not clearly illegal and advises re voting at Tuesday's meeting. City Clerk Albee to rewrite grievance procedure to require public votes.

Venetian San Fiesta to Offer Nonstop Week of Events

The Fifth Annual Venetian San Fiesta features a treasure hunt, jazz band concert, beauty pageant, air show and more across a 10 day period from Oct 21 to Oct 30. Highlights include a treasure chest key clue hunt, Miss Venice Pageant, high school performances, Kiwanis contest, Epiphany Church Ghost House, parades, Fiesta in the Park, boat and auto shows, and a sail race concluding with a Sunday service and a Christian Happening.

Fifth Annual Kick-Off Luncheon for United Way in Venice

The South Sarasota County United Way launches its drive with a luncheon on Wednesday October 12 at 11 50 a m at Venice Community Center. Campaign chairman James E Sicks announced a 350 per person donation and tickets at the door. Civic and service clubs are urged to hold their weekly meeting to support the drive.

Head lice outbreaks persist for the fourth year in county schools. At least six cases appear in each South County elementary, with spread believed to reach junior and senior high schools. Health nurses cite DDT ban, travel, and social contact as factors.

Community Services to Offer DIY Car Repair Courses

Ed Bolam discusses a new youth and adult education program led by Katie Pointer, funded by state and county grants, to teach do it yourself car maintenance at Venice Junior High with cooperation from Walt Rothenbach and Guy Bennett. Pointer will oversee adult education and social service coordination via the Community Services unit.
