The letter page urges cutting millages to ease the tax burden, praising Councilman Gibson’s mill reduction plan and proposing school and county reforms. It also suggests financing capital projects with general obligation bonds to save money over time.
A reader argues for a regional central sewage system spanning the county and city to replace the inadequate Venice system. He cites stalled 201 funding, suggests a countywide plant could cost about 2.5 million from Uncle Sam, lower hookup fees, and easier complaints handling. He urges residents to pressure the county commission to reconvene the spear and back a unified system.
The reader compares doomsday themes across books and current events. It cites The Crash of 79 by Collins and LaPierre, linking predicted U S troubles in the Middle East and a Libyan threat to bomb New York with real-world crises and warnings from media figures.
