Jellyfish Influx Off Venice and Sarasota Coastlines
Local observers note numerous jellyfish drifting in with incoming tides from the Gulf of Mexico near Venice and Sarasota. Taft of Mote Marine Laboratory says three species have been collected, averaging 8 to 10 inches with long tentacles. He warns touching tentacles can sting tender skin, though most species are harmless.
