Venice Hospital seeks CON for expanded ICU and renovations

Venice Hospital Board of Trustees approved filing a certificate of need with the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services in Tallahassee for a larger intensive care unit. The plan also covers a major lab renovation, relocation of staff education facilities, and moving housekeeping stations. HSA has 160 beds allocated for Sarasota County as of 1983. Hospital administrator Ron Hanson notes a critical need for critical care beds, with new beds unlikely to reduce ICU demand.

Proposed $4.5 Million ICU Wing Plan With 32 Bed Center

The plan would consolidate intensive care on one floor, adding 24 beds and, if the CON is granted, a 32 bed critical care center on the third floor. It includes two eight bed cardiac units and eight each of medical and surgical IC beds. The existing cardiac unit would expand to 32 beds. Hanson notes current occupancy hits 100 percent and that approved beds do not meet critical care needs. Filing of the CON would occur in November with a reply in February.
